Link Authentication Options

When sending one or more documents out for signature, you can choose a method of authentication for the signer. If enabled, they must successfully complete authentication to access and sign the document(s). 

Supported Authentication Methods

  • First four numbers of SSN/EIN
  • Last four digits of SSN/EIN
  • Access code (email)
  • Access code (SMS)
  • Question and answer 

The authentication method is chosen in the second step of the signature process flow. For more information on each method, refer to the table at the end of this article.

Authentication methods explained

Authentication Method Description
First 4 of SSN/EIN

The user enters the first four digits of the signer's Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN)

The signer will be required to enter the first four digits of their SSN or EIN.

Last 4 of SSN/EIN

The user enters the last four digits of the signer's Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN)

The signer will be required to enter the last four digits of their SSN or EIN.

Access code (email) The signer will be prompted to request a one-time access code that will be delivered to their email address. The code will be valid for 20 minutes.
Access code (SMS)

The user enters the signer's mobile number.

The signer will be prompted to request a one-time access code that will be delivered to their mobile phone number. The code will be valid for 20 minutes.

Question & Answer

The user selects a question and answer pair from a previously defined set or creates a custom pair.

The signer will be prompted to answer the question selected or created by the user.
